Domenico Scarlatti — Sonatas for Harpsichord
Concert-lecture by Trevor Stephenson

On Sunday afternoon, June 29th, at 3 pm, I’ll play a concert here at the house featuring the harpsichord music of Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757). Scarlatti was that rarest of musical creatures: a dazzling virtuoso and a sublime poet, and he cultivated the sound-world of the harpsichord in original and inexhaustible ways. Scarlatti was to the 18th-cenutry harpsichord what Chopin would be to the piano in the next century.
At the concert, I’ll  discuss Scarlatti’s
training and career, his unprecedented approach to writing for the harpsichord, the types of instruments he played on, his utilization of key color (based on 18th-century keyboard temperaments), his use of folk and operatic elements, and his musical legacy.
Hope to see you on June 29th! Email to make a reservation trevor@trevorstephenson.com. We will serve refreshments!
